If you've been following my WipEout Lego builds — the AG-Systems, Feisar, Qirex, Van-Über, and the rest — you'll know I'm a bit obsessive about getting the details right. And that means accurate decals and livery, which means reference art.
The Rabbit Hole#
After spending more time than any reasonable middle-aged man should on Reddit and deep into Google results, I'd managed to collate quite a collection of game references, art, recreations, fonts, vectors and more. All of this exists out there, but it's not exactly easy to find — scattered across DeviantArt, forgotten forums, and personal blogs from the mid-2000s.
So I figured: if I've done the work already, why not put it somewhere useful for everyone?
Enter Awesome WipEout#
awesome-wipeout.github.io is a community-maintained, normalised library of WipEout-universe art and design. It covers:
- Game & team logos across every era — from the original WipEout (1995) right through to the Omega Collection
- Pilot emblems from the original game
- Weapon pickup glyphs — because who doesn't love a good plasma bolt icon
- Speed-class badges from HD/Fury
- Game-mode emblems and league logos
- Track & venue logos
- Fonts, screenshots, and links to all the major reference sources
Every asset is credited to the original creator with their chosen licence - it's not all my work so the creators wishes have been respected for every source.
The Community#
This wouldn't exist without the community. Artists like ollite20 , Curtis Agnew (X_0rm) , Liger-Inuzuka & toolboxio have all walked this path waaaaay before I have. Hopefully I can highlight their amazing work and make it easier to find and use for the community.
The Fine Print#
Importantly, this is a non-commercial, fan-made archive. WipEout and all related names, logos and marks are trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment / Studio Liverpool (formerly Psygnosis). I'm not affiliated with Sony, I'm just a fan who spent too long on Google with access to Claude Code :).
If you've got something to add — a font I missed, a better vector trace, a screenshot of a track I haven't captured — the GitHub repo is open for contributions. PRs welcome.
Why This Matters to Me#
I've been a WipEout fan and Designers Republic tragic for years. The collision of art and gameplay that WipEout represented — and still represents — is something I've always loved. Being able to give back to the community that's given me so much inspiration (and reference material for my Lego builds) is just the right thing to do.
